Word for people that don't know what is going in. There are a lot of shell accounts that only ever talk positively about Haejin. Basically worship him. Many lists have been created including one by @jaredcwillis which was downvoted by Haejin to hide evidence.

Please read EVERY evidence post before making a conclusion about whether there is something fishy going on or not.

Don't just take a side because somebody said something. The blockchain can't lie. It is immutable and all the information is available for EVERYONE. Use it.

Seriously though, have you considered that all of Haejin's followers are really Haejin? I've been here two weeks and I've already built a bot. The python piston/steem code is incredibly easy. If someone has the money and the know how, it's a no brainer to set up and run thousands of accounts from one terminal. It would be quite easy to emulate many Steemit users, and seem like you were many people. It would explain quite a bit. One could easily write code that allowed them to post as any of thousands of accounts just by typing in the name from which you wish to post into some python code, which could be run from a single terminal. Simultaneously One could run code that caused all these thousands of accounts to resteem and upvote all content from a single 'Haejin" account. Albeit you would need some money to get started, to set up the accounts and give them a proper amount of SP so their upvote counts for something. Maybe 20 or 30 K would do it. I don't know. I just know it's a major flaw in the system and it seems someone has found a way to make millions from it.

Great thoughts this could explain a lot of whats going on.

The truth about the matter has been unveiled. All that's left is to act upon it. The Steemit team should really review what's going on on the site.

I actually wrote a lot of comments when I first found out about this on his posts as there were a lot of shell accounts. The other day I wrote a post about some of the things I had witnessed from watching and follow Haejin since he started flagging me.

I flagged a lot of accounts I believed to be fake day one so he made a post with a list on it for people for his "followers" to flag. I was on it haha.

Hahaha, that's tragic, man. Fortunately that kind of thing hasn't ever happened to me, but I can see how it'd go. I'm a programmer and I've been making bots for a long time, so I know how harsh it can be to have a botnet swarming upon your virtual identity. I hope they didn't delete your account, tho, (did they?). Also, happy new year.

10,000 followers is not very much, I don't think haejin uses bots. His youtube has 15k subscribers.

He currently has about 28.000 followers on twitter and almost 19.000 followers on YouTube, and many of those followers are now on Steemit, so it is not so strange that his posts are so profitable, he gives his followers exactly what they want and so they upvote him...

As for upvoting his own content, literally everyone does this. Bernie has upwards of 20 bots with SDP generated from systems of upvoting content. He is literally paid to make himself money.
Haejin having a single alternate account (or whatever ranchor is) with a large stake does not seem like that big of a problem when compared to abuse by other users.

I have been flagged far before I was posting about @haejin. I gave away 100 STEEM for Christmas, he flagged the post and 6 others to nothing. Half of them are invisible. I started posting about @haejin because there is no point wasting hours doing my normal content and to raise awareness.

@haejin likes to flag anything that shows evidence or disagrees with him.

Over the past week themarkymark has had multiple posts flaming Haejin. Maybe he is not bernie, going through the posts and flagging everything, but he is still not being a positive force in my eyes.

I can also see how Haejin is not a fan of whale voting services, used by bernie markymark and plenty of others. It makes sense, as Haejin is putting work in to his content, while these accounts are sent massive amounts of money only to support themselves. The only "actions" people can reference about haejin is his flags. He is not berating anyone. He is not breaking any rules.

I think the rules should be changed, I think flagging should be limited to try to cut down on abuse. I think voting bots/whale services are scams and should have some sort of liability.

I don't want haejin to stop posting, or stop receiving credit for his posts. If other whales are threatening him, it is reasonable for him to flag them, even write posts about them.

People need to stop treating it as though Haejin is the problem.

I think I could get behind the fact the haejin isn't the biggest issue. I think bid bots are overall more harmful. I think it would be hard to pinpoint a specific user that takes a piece of the reward pool like haejin does though.

Haejin does take a lot of the reward pool, there is no denying it. However, the number of people who follow him and upvote him is only going to increase, so it will only get worse.

Steem needs to come up with a solution, because it isn't haejin's fault.

Some say to limit his posts to a certain number a day, though this would not allow him to make time sensitive price predictions. There are a lot of coins he tries to cover.

Sounds kinda counter productive, if the pools were bigger, it wouldn't change the effective precentage of the pool, and what spending power that would be.

Imagine if instead of $1 for a candy bar it was $100 and for every 1 dollar you earn it is actually $100 does that change anything? The "cut" you get would be the same, even if the numbers change, because the numbers are arbitrary, if he wanted to do up to the minute predictions, start a livestream show or something, you don't have to spam post. What they should do is limit posts in a more serious manner to 4, after 4 posts your rewards will diminish until 6 where you basically are forced to deny payout. Anyone who actually has something to say should be able to do it in less than 6 posts a day.

If the reward pool is larger and haejin recieves the same amount he is currently getting he would recieve a smaller percent. I don't need the lesson on numbers, and I disagree that they should lower the number of posts.

Flags are a bad thing if they are abused, which they are clearly being abused. Steem isn't perfect, it can be improved.

I can't help but think that no matter what anyone tells you, you'll always think haejin is worth more than 30 grand a day for his analysis and you feel that the steemit rewards pool is where that payment should come from.

It is within the bounds of the system for users to think someone is getting overpaid. I've stated before that I understand Haejin followers point of view simply because I see alot of people making a lot of money using voting bots and automated curation, ontop of thousands of dollars per post just like haejin for sharing mere updates that many see as good quality content. This is great, but for the sake of possible abuse, out of all the people I watch post and make thousands, Haejin is posting the most. I also wrote a comment on this thread where I explain how I read that after making 4 posts in a 24 hour period the system starts to penalize rewards, and how it seems to be a myth, if haejin is making 7-11 posts a day and making 30 grand a day. I'm happy for his success but as my opinion I think it's a little over the top. Others seem to think the same And yes I've seen the bot systems. I am filled with envy and motivation when investigating each angle of this argument.

That is true, I also see some bots posting every hour on the hour and making over $20 an hour doing it. $20 an hour residually 24/7 is pretty freakin sweet by any standard. I also see the argument in one person who's got a lot invested can upvote whatever they want but another user who also has a lot invested can't choose to upvote 1 guy. It's a fine line where creating a solution would make it feel less decentralized and that is something I don't want.

Also you missed the fact if the if overall reward pool is increased that his revenue would increase because it is a percent of the pool, not a specific value of it.

Interesting point you make. I'm sure bots are part of it. Probably mostly built by his fans or just people who want to piggyback on his success. I think it's a good thing that there are people making shit tons of money on here though. Some of his content is interesting and useful.

No, you don't... but you do need a lot of skills and brains to predict the price targets as accurately as he's been doing.

The very fact that the system is open to attack is is actually on one hand a good sign as it indicates that we still have decentralized freedom. Only a centralized authority figure could attempt to thwart a botnet. But could a "good bot net" fight and conquer a "bad botnet"? This question frames exactly where we are in this day and age.

My solution:

Create a type of curve, perhaps a bell curve, in which voting power increases to a cetain point but then begins to exonentially slow it's increase in power as an account gets closer and closer to "whale" status. This will take a large chunk of voting influence away from the "whale elite" and put it back into the "dolphin middle class" where it belongs.

Better still... Fix the Flag system which is completely broken.

Up to 20 Flag in a day: 25 Steem
Up to 50 Flag in a day: 100 Steem

Up to 1000 Flag in a day: 2000 Steem

All this Steem would, of course, be going into the Reward Pool. I bet Bernie would think again, before going in yet another Censorship Spree. :-P

I actually think flagging is a poor solution for anything. It's a band-aid but not a real solution. A real solution would fix the problem so that flagging would be unnecessary.

I was thinking about that a little bit ago when I was looking at his account activity on Steemd. Just saw a constant stream of upvotes from ridiculously small accounts liking multiple posts in quick succession. Looks like a botnet to me.

When I first saw people fighting about this, I thought the whole thing was dumb. The closer I look into it, it's wild and utterly suspicious.

the reason why it draws people here is not the website. There are others better. It is not the community either. It's higher elsewhere and you build yourself up here again.

Downvotes are required so the community can police itself, it is the abusive flags that harm the community.

Ok, but who decides what abuse is and what is not. As long as it is not criminal according to the laws of the respective country, it is rather based on personal taste or our own worldviews. Which in turn can lead to abuse.

When a very bias crowd steps into the platform under the impression that "We can just give Haejin 100% of the rewards pool. To hell with everyone else and the platform" where you all are in agreeance that steemit is no longer a platform of creativity but a platform of crypto analysis you should not be at all surprised that the crowd that's been sharing wealth between a large variety of content creators are going to stand up and do something about it.

Just because it's decentralized, doesn't mean you were going to be able to ninja loot the rewards and get away with it like this is some kind of video game. The community as a whole, decides. Not you, not just haejin followers. You and haejin don't make up the community. The community does. You guys have become a part of the community, but you certainly don't make up the whole community. Why this even needs to be explained is beyond me. Flags will happen, haejin followers will flag him, and he will forever be the highest paid TA on the planet thanks to steemit. Or will he? Can you guys counter every user? because eventually when everyone starts to notice the effect they will start to seek solutions. Like with any business, someone's gonna get a pay cut.

Each person gets to decide. If you think someone is being punished unfairly, go upvote them. If you think someone is being upvoted unfairly, go downvote them. It generally works pretty good and there are only problems when people get mad and start using downvotes as weapons. The community responds negatively to this and it works itself out. There are some ideas floating around that might make this problem easier to handle but at the end of the day each person gets to help decide how much value will go to each post from the reward pool. Upvotes and downvotes are necessary for this to work properly

No one really can decide, it's very subjective. The original ideal is the community decides. The problem is when the community takes action, the offenders retaliate.

If down votes had equal power, regardless of SP, this would be valid. However they don't. So the community can't police itself. The people who are willing/able to spend money get to police the poor.

So the community becomes lopsided. As with all anarchy, the strong bully the weak.

If all votes were created equal, this would truly be a working system... However then people wouldn't invest tons of money in the coin. Make no mistake, steemit is about making money at is core... With then"invested" making the "rules" about who gets to make that money how.

As for it being worse if nothing was done, all that down vote power used to clean up spambots and beggers and to reward good content over bad would have benefitted this site and the community 100x more than trying to flush out one person gaming the rewards system.

But it wouldn't have given nearly the power trip rush this little drama play has I suppose.

Pretty new to the platform, I have watched both sides argue since the beginning though.

So I read a post the other day that says if you post more than 4 times a day that every post after the fourth post will be penalized in rewards and this is set to prevent rewards abuse due to overposting. Well this seems to be a load of garbage because Haejin is posting between 7 and 11 times a day.

I repeat: 7 to 11 times a day!

On INDIVIDUAL crypto trading updates that can absolutely be compressed into less posts!

$300 + SBD per post is absolute insanity if you're making between 7 and 11 posts per day. According to the price of SBD we're talking $30,000 a day.

I'm just saying if we're gonna be so loose with money where that's cool someone throw me a bone. A few times was cool, and I also see rancho upvoting a few others but typically only accounts that get flagged by the bernie crowd.

I've never seen so much money being thrown around so I am a bit overwhelmed by the situation. It makes me laugh but it's also pretty concerning. Greed is to be expected with this many people of all different backgrounds on the platform; however, there needs to be a solution. To fix this, you're going to have to remove Whales from the system. Alternatively, you're going to have to introduce moderation to the system.

The system is centralized right now (by whales), so you either turn it truly decentralized, or introduced a higher centralized force.

We need community based validation. Human nature can not be changed. Animals will always resort to violence and retaliate when provoked. We need to develop solutions that force greedy people to play nice and share in order to be greedy.

Steemit accounts taking advantage of the rewards pool reminds me of the Yellow Stone Bears back in the late 1800 until 1970 when everyone fed them and they had free access to the garbage dumps. Once they closed down the dumps and didn't allow people to fed the bears many died because they didn't know how to forage for food. Let's not let steemit get that far! I think all organisms are opportunist and want that free lunch!

It's definitely a major issue, how are we going to increase the breadth of the site without distributing payouts amongst all and not people who use bots to destroy the pool.

I do not like what @haejin is doing but he is not breaking any obvious rules. He didn't pull a Logan Paul, if you get what I mean.

If Steemit adds limitations, it becomes the same crap it tried to avoid. If it does nothing, it becomes another example of how any system can be exploited regardless of intentions or regulations.

I added that the above suggestion could be easily implemented through communities. Anybody outside a community will not have access to the community.

I am a newbe here and actually had some interaction with the individual in question. Similar to some others on this thread, why is there such a hatred for this man? Please forgive my ignorance, only been here a few days.

Because he is very successful and heavily rewarded by his followers for his posts... Others think that the money/reward pool should be spread out "more evenly". The problem is steemit, not haejin. He is using the platform like he is supposed to, by creating valuable content. he is not breaking any rules, even if he uses bots, as his attackers uses bots too..

Not followers but a follower to be precise. Yes, he has a lot of upvotes but mainly the rewards come from one account upvoting him.

This sounds like Digg all over again. Digg was a website just like Steemit, where users contributed stories and stories that got a lot of "diggs" (upvotes) rose to the top. Anyways, there were powerusers of Digg that controlled all of the content. Their stories would always make it to the top and the rest of us little guys without followings struggled to ever make it to the front page.

This is a real big concern for Steemit because this is a community driven by monetary gain. You can't just shrug it off as "no big deal" because money is at stake. It's possible that you could be the first to post some hot piece of news happening in the world and your story gets buried because the powerusers of Steemit with huge following decide to write the same story as you. You won't have a chance.

Even if the site had support team, they could'nt possibly remove downvotes. Action of flagging / downvoting however morally right/wrong is a part of steem blockchain's protocol.

This site is meant to be self-policing.

There is a way to stop abuse if you understand that there is a fixed pool of money generated every day. You stop voting for the posts that are draining the pot, and you start voting for other posts.

The second part is the most important - the more people vote for other stuff, the smaller haejin's share will be. Sadly people stopped voting when teh changes to the curation algorithm were introduced.

Well I think the main post, and the main idea presented in the comments negates this.
If you have the constant backing of just 1 whale, it doesn't matter if the community doesn't upvote his post.
It wouldn't matter if the community votes on other post, because a botnet, and fake accounts spamming one person will always win (especially with whales downvoted other post).

Blockchain technology is designed to be decentralized. There's no-one in charge of Steemit just like no one is in charge of any peer-to-peer network. Look it up. It's revolutionary.

I havent been a member of steemit that long but I have seen it change in the time I have been a member. I originally joined to share my art work , my photography and promote my handmade Etsy store all whilst earning a little for the time that I have put into writing a few articles. Im not a big writer lol more of a visual so most of my posts are photographs that I take and share which are mostly the plants I grow or the beauty that surrounds me in nature. I found steemit has become a little bit of a war zone of bots and battling between the big steemit earners of which the little people feel the fallout. Posts have become rather bitchy between members and that pure artistic vibe is disappearing for rants and crypto currency wars. Lol I will just keep doing what im doing and leave the steemit wars to the big whales .

Why would you flag my post about a painting I got for Christmas from my brother? I thought you were about ensuring newcomers and Steemians get their rewards. Not like it was worth much, but now it's worth nothing.

At first I thought your post was hawking haejin before seeing it was satire. I erroneously flagged it, which I reversed in a matter of a couple minutes. It really only took that long for you to go to my page to find something to flag in retaliation? I'm still getting the hang of this shit, man :(

Also if bots upvoting are such an issue, why do you have so much activity with buildawhale? Is it not one of the very things you have contested?

Not trying to stir anything up here, but it would be nice if you could put that flag back in your voting pool, because now I can no longer see the image of the painting, and that's what this is really about; sharing it with friends and family. Nah, with the freedom of an open network you have to come up with creative solutions. Creating limitations goes against the idea of an open network.

I already posted this higher up on in the comments on this post but I'll post it again since it's getting cluttery around here. :)

My solution:

Create a type of curve, perhaps a bell curve, in which voting power increases to a cetain point but then begins to exonentially slow it's increase in power as an account gets closer and closer to "whale" status. This will take a large chunk of voting influence away from the "whale elite" and put it back into the "dolphin middle class" where it belongs.

Oh my, they will never go for this, because remember... 99% of those whales bought their way to the top.

Who is a "they" in a decentralized platform? I'm hoping Steem Inc., not Steemit.com, implements the changes in a hard fork. If Steemit.com doesn't want to implement the new version then I'm sure someone with an understanding of the problem will create a new site based on the new version and with time people will realize the benefits of moving to the new site. Then the "whales" of Steemit.com can give each other upvotes all day; We'll be somewhere else. ;)

When people are investing their money on a project they should not get in return hate for being powerful.

The sole meaning of steemit is to present a solid investment proposal for them to tunnel their money towards.

Why should we be so close minded to not see the forest behind the tree. Those people are giving value to our shares. we should be treating them as they deserve to be treated for putting their money where their mouth is.

Sorry but that is the only way we should see this. Buying steem should not be treated as a malicious act, that will throw off a lot of investors. We cannot afford that as a platform that wants to become mainstream.

That is my opinion and I hope people could start looking at the bigger picture rather than crying about unfair rewards and so on. We will have all zero value if the investors abandon steemit, and that is something we should all be aware of. This is business.

We will also have zero value here on Steemit, if all that's left on the platform is whales. 🐳

you made a point but also i think he has made the money he deserves getting out of the box.

I'm impartial to this 'fighting' between wales. While I like @haejin and his TA videos. Some of those videos also did help me get some money. I do have to say the amount of money he earns per post or per video is mind blowing to me. Though at the same time some other whales and some people that post non sensical things also get similar amount of money / upvotes.

This post at the time of reading says ~740$. If half of that is Steem and half SBD (not sure if I understand the payouts well enough). That's 6$ per Steem and 10$ per SBD. That's crazy.

Here I am hoping some day I will be able to get 50 SBD per MONTH which would make me enough to live well in my shitty country ;)

@themarkymark, thanks for enlightening us, I really find it confusing to try and understand how Steem and Steem Dollars are awarded, I am a serious writer and noone really cares about my work as its about the environment, ecology, consciousness, and other causes, not cryptocurrency. However, I do see there is a lot of favoritism and the meritocracy here is not just, its contradictory to those that use cryptocurrency to get away from the archaic hierachies of corruption. It sounds like Steemit needs to reevaluate a much fairer system of distribution so that the greedy cannot cheat others out of their share. There are some really excellent writers here that write about things they are passionate about and many of them are overlooked and undervalued, where as others just produce low quality content for the rewards and nothing more.

Why is this more offensive than all the "hot chick travel" blogs that make a million bucks a post?

If you mean @sweeetsssj, then she posts I think 1/day for around $400. This is $382 10+ times a day.
There is a big difference, and in this case is mostly just one voter. He is basically paying Haejin a salary, which is perfectly fine, do it somewhere else, don't do it in a shared reward pool that causes everyone else to suffer.

Well, she's the only one I see now, but there are/have been others. My point is just that there's a bunch of stuff making a killing on here that I think is of low quality or doesn't deserve what is being made. Honestly, like I said I just don't understand what the big deal is. You seem to be doing pretty well from just posting about him, who I've never heard of before seeing all your posts on the trending page.

No doubt, I report stuff on a daily basis, and much of it is just ignored. But nothing at the scale of what is going on now.

Honestly, I am already sick of this site, not because of stuff like this post, but because I actually put time into writing my own blogs and am hammers down by nonsense trend posts, so am lucky if someone even bothers to read my stories !
I think it is so sad that people can use bots, codes and pay to upsell based on greed rather than quality.

I found interacting in communities on Discord has helped me a lot. Commenting, following, and engaging other authors you like goes a long way to get followers who actually engage rather than just follow for follow.

It isn't easy, I won't like to you.

What's discord? haha. I was going to start a blog on another server, but chose this one from the advice of my partner tbh. That is the second issue though, I have struggled to find like minded stories to follow my self! Everything decent seems to be hidden beneath all the junk

@themarkymark, this problem could be solved by changing the algorithm for calculating voting power. If users' voting power were calculated based on their interaction with the platform and its users, then it would be impossible for users to make large deposits and up/downvote with impunity without exposing themselves to corrective voting by other steemit users. I outline this a bit more in my most recent post, and would love to have additional feedback or buy-in from witnesses.

Every option you come up with, there is likely way to abuse it. Bots could abuse the scenario you present. That's the tricky thing, it isn't an easy problem to solve. There are lots of good ideas, but almost all of them have low effort/ low-cost ways to get around it.

Sure, bots could abuse it, and inevitably some would slip through the cracks, but their required interaction would still expose them to correction in the form of downvoting. We see that with spam bots now. Eventually they get downvoted to nothing. My proposal won't fix the problem of people trying to game the system overall, but it would provide a recourse for the ivory tower user that buys SP, doesn't expose themselves to downvotes or interact with the community and up/downvotes in ways that go against the communities' values.

This is serious.

I used to be part of that cult . Upvoting everything he posted hoping to get a price of that curration reward. However I have learned the error of my ways. I will up vote something of his that I find useful but I try to spread my votes around now. Not that my votes are worth anything

I am not reading the comments. I have been sucked in to too many of these ridiculous back and forths and will not continue. I do want to say my piece.

@themarkymark cares for Steemit more than most. I only know him from his posts and from following this... "the conflict sent to destroy Steemit." Do not kid yourself... the token has hit all-time highs... but if this 'problem' is not solved... there are new lows to set as well (and I remember reading it was down at 7 cents for a time).

@themarkymark spent his new years eve trying to resolve this issue. He stuck his neck out knowing the consequences and did it anyway. He is still sticking his neck out... and the rewards may look good now, but could just as easily go down to zero before all is said and done.

This man is one who is not willing to let a place he loves die without at least a fight... and that is one of the reasons why he has my vote for witness.

The way I see it... @haejin and his followers are taking this conflict too personally and as such, seem to justify backlash. I do not agree with all of the tactics he has had to endure during this time... and for that I am sorry... I follow his work, and enjoy it. His work is good for the platform... Do I think he deserves to be paid $15000 / day? No. There are many people that do very well on a daily basis... and he very likely could sink down to the lowly levels of some of the mega whales who still post daily, and make $400 (according to the ticker).

The downvotes are not meant to hate or disrespect what he brings to the platform... he brings value to the platform... the downvotes (and upvotes for that matter) are merely meant to bring justice to the imperfect means of distributing rewards. There are many who are watching and sitting idly by hoping that steem doesn't go down the shitter... sitting idly by will send steem down the shitter.

I gave this post my 100% upvote... it might be up to 20 cents now! I gave this post and @themarkymark my support not because I dislike @haejin but because I love steemit and I want to see it flourish.

One day I hope to upvote one of @haejin's pieces... but as it stands I feel like he is getting more than enough. That means I hope that eventually everyone will see the light... this is NOT PERSONAL... this is about STEEMIT and keeping it a great place to write, read and hang out.

Hey @themarkymark, if you get the opportunity I was wondering if/how correct this post is here talking about the subject at hand. From my experience with talking to users, much with that of the author of the post in question, has been that many users do not understand exactly what the reward pool is or how it works and I think, as a witness, you have the potential to write these things and explain why draining the reward pool could be bad for the community. I don't know, it might not do anything at all. Anyways thank you for taking the time to read this.
