Supporting Developer-Witnesses

BY: @therealwolf | CREATED: May 10, 2018, 7:13 a.m. | VOTES: 267 | PAYOUT: $711.84 | [ VOTE ]

I've recently made the decision to focus primarily on supporting development oriented Witnesses with my Witness-Approval.

I believe that developers are crucial for the success of Steem. Without them, we wouldn't have a blockchain in the first place - in addition to all these great apps on top of it (dtube, dlive, utopian etc.) and I'm not even talking about the possibilities through SMTs.

Additionally, while Steem has its strengths - other blockchain projects like EOS, NEO, Nano, Ethereum & the whole blockchain-sphere are developing so fast, that Steem needs constant improvement.

We do have a motivated and skilled team with Steemt Inc. who is - as @andrarchy explained it recently: working 'round the clock.

But I also believe that Witnesses have a great incentive to be valuable contributing developers for Steem as they get rewarded with Steempower for running a witness-node - and depending on how valuable their input is for Steem: the more votes they will receive. (technically)

Smartsteem Proxy

I've also decided to use @therealwolf as a voting-proxy for @smartsteem. So in total I currently have a voting-strength of 45k SP to support my fellow development oriented witnesses.

You can of course also choose me as a witness-proxy (https://steemit.com/~witnesses) and I'll make sure to vote on witnesses to the best of my knowledge & belief .

Witness List

I currently vote for 26 Witnesses - of which roughly 80-85% are developers.

Witness Developer Reason @therealwolf Developer Developer of Smartsteem.com & Steem Messenger @jesta Developer Experienced developer & witness who has created Vessel (Steem Wallet), chainbb, steemdb.com and is currently focusing on Vessel 2.0 (afaik) @gtg Developer Very experienced Witness - running 2 RPC Nodes @someguy123 Developer Very experienced Witness and also the CEO of @privex - the greatest hosting-company that accepts cryptocurrency - runs 1 RPC Node @thecryptodrive Experienced witness and a very smart business person - owns 1 RPC Node @netuoso Developer Experienced witness, SteemDevs founder & decentmemes.com developer - owns 1 RPC Node @smooth.witness ? If there is invalid or outdated info - then please let me know and I'll edit it.

@utopian-io is doing it for regular developers, you will be doing it for developers who are also witness. It would be interesting to see if there will be any difference in top 50.

@flugschwein | May 10, 2018, 7:39 a.m. | Votes: 1 | [ VOTE ]

It would've been great if you either listed your witness votes (like @theaustrianguy already said) or if you included at least a link for looking into your witness votes easily. If someone is rather new, he might not know the tools for looking into someones witness votes. And the ones who know them all, wouldn't have to search you up by themselves. ;)

It certainly makes sense to support a good share of witnesses who develop solid and useful applications for use on the Steem Blockchain.

I would say my 'developer' selections account for 25%/30% of the votes I have in place.

The remaining 2/3rd are split between witnesses who promote the the blockchain and steemit, outside of the network, and those working within the network to encourage engagement and retention.

@asbear | May 10, 2018, 10:28 a.m. | Votes: 1 | [ VOTE ]

@therealwolf, thanks for including me in the list. The devs in the list are all great and those who I quite respect. I totally agree that witness voting is the best way to motivate the developers do make Steem community better, and it will eventually encourage the devs to compete each other in a pragmatic way. The ultimate benefit of doing this will be a influx of top level devs into Steem community. We do have devs around here but the more the better.

This is the easiest way to stimulate our dev community that can be done by all the witnesses including backup witnesses. Thanks for your great support!

Glad to see you are supporting well respected witnesses. What is your view on Witnesses that support mostly content creators? They are not actively developing tools for steemit, but they try to regulate and keep the community posting quality and original content.

Hey @therealwolf
Amazing to see your decision in supporting the wonderful Steem developers.

The Utopian witness supports the development of Open Source projects and Steem based applications. Consider our witness as well!

I'm a developer as well. I've made heaps of different tools for steem, custom voting bots and community management tools for teamaustralia, openmic, msp and others.. I also run one of the most popular RPC nodes and I'm the primary sponsor of countless initiatives by other developers.

Interesting that you included a bunch of people in this "developer list" even though you can't claim a single creation of theirs - but they have a lot of SP and support you.

As I'm in position #6 I'm not begging for more support or regularly self promoting my stuff, but still - it'd be nice to get a mention since I've been here developing for 2 years now.

Other developers that didn't make the list : @utopian, @quochuy , @drakos , @klye , @ura-soul , @arcange , @noisy.witness , @danielsaori , @bobdos & @evildido

@bobdos | May 12, 2018, 12:41 p.m. | Votes: 3 | [ VOTE ]

Thanks to @ausbitbank for the mention of developer witness. And I also support @ausbitbank as one of the KEY developer witness for STEEM, considering his significant contribution to this community.

I am working with the team on a totally new HTML5 game publishing platform based on STEEM and IPFS. It's in alpha testing stage right now. I believe it will be released for beta testing in the next couple of months.

I would like to invest all my passion to contribute to the community, and help open up more channels for indie game developers to succeed in the game industry through STEEM.

'STEEM HTML5 Game Publishing Platform' is on the way...

So stay tuned, let's rock together then. :)

BTW,

All the codes of Server side and Client side will be OPEN SOURCE once it's released.

@therealwolf | May 12, 2018, 1:06 p.m. | Votes: 1 | [ VOTE ]

Hey @ausbitbank - I know that you're a developer, even though I don't know what exactly you have developed for Steem. I'm not part of those communities you've mentioned - so I've no idea what you did there.

Now - I initially voted for you and then removed my vote as I believe that you're quite solid in the top 10.

But you're correct - I should have mentioned you, but honestly: the full list wasn't planned but rather made quickly due to feedback from readers.

Regarding your list of other witnesses - I know some of them and I'll think about who I'll add to that list, but just because someone is a developer, doesn't mean that I will vote for him / her. Otherwise the amount of developers on Steem would go easily over my available 30 votes.

I'm not that flashy and big, but I still would like to apply, I humbly run @castellano witness, i also develop mainly utility bots for communities, integrating steem and discord.

I run a heavily modified small non profit whitelist community bidbot, I code antispam bots (that do not leave spam behind).

Have a working pilot of a discord wallet with a passarel token in alpha test for the last few months in @reveur's discord.

Do custom bots for community curation projects...

I think customer service is also important. With the current apps it seems like steem could become a $100 billion platform if not more. Personally I feel like our user retention should be half as bad as it currently is and the value of steem should be about 100% higher if not more.
Overall I am VERY impressed with the steem developers but disappointed in our customer service. I have been trying to help and share my new knowledge about the payout threshold and the new @dustsweeper solution. It does look like it's vote power is draining. Perhaps you or one of the other witnesses could help it out?
