A lot of third world countries are blessed with rich cultural heritage,diverse forms of Art such as the pottery ,woodcarvings, textile weavings etc.
We will be looking at a very beautiful work of art from the ancient city of Abeokuta.Adire is an integral part of the Abeokuta culture.
What is Adire?It is the indigo-dyed cloth made by the Yoruba people.It is a textile that is made from a resist-dye cloth.
There are Two basic techniques of making Adire.
1)ONIKO:This is a tie-resist where raffia is used in tying into different patterns,sometimes objects like stones and seeds can be used.
2)ELEKO:Starch is used in form of paste as a resist in the dying.The starch is used to make the desired patterns on a side of the cloth.This pattern or design can be done through freehand or by stencils.

I believe if only the developing nations can refine their resources and promote their cultural heritage maybe Poverty can be reduced.
