These are probably the most important real reasons for SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) aka "cot death":
1.) Doctors STEAL the babys cord blood (1/3rd of the total blood supply of the baby) and sell it to the highest bidder, instead of waiting until the cord blood moves into the babies body and THEN separating the cord. It is advisable to wait 3 to 30 minutes BEFORE severing the cord, doctors usually cut it immediately. This of course is a big shock for the babies body and can be disastrous if combined with 2. (horizontal baby bed), as the babies body is already missing 1/3 of its blood and if put on a flat surface, it cannot even utilize gravity for its circulation anymore, and for some babys, that is too much = death.

2.) Flat baby beds
According to Mr. Andrew K. Fletcher, one of the main reasons for SIDS is that the babies beds are exactly horizontal. This reduces blood flow and the flow of various other fluids in the body, like the cerebrospinal fluid, which can lead to SIDS. See http://www.inclinedbedtherapy.com . This can also contribute or lead to SIDS in the mothers womb, aka when the mother is sleeping on an exactly horizontal bed.
3.) Geopathic interference fields
If a baby bed is located on a geological / geopathic interference field, this can greatly contribute to or cause Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. I only have a german article about it, here:

5.) Circumcision
This gruesome and barbaric procedure is performed on the baby without anesthesia (!) and significantly increases chances for SIDS.
(I recently read somewhere on minds.com that anesthesia would not even be possible, as the baby would be killed by the anesthesia, if given in sufficient dosage, so they only use topical creams, which hardly have any effect, and even these topical creams are not used widely.)

There are probably a lot of other, "minor" factors as well, for example it is said that babies should not lie on their stomachs, but this might be overexaggerated.
I think the above mentioned factors are probably the most important ones. Medicine unfortunately concentrates on the minor ones and does not care about the above mentioned factors.
