A Step Away From Home

From the moment I was posted
by the Nysc,
From the time I stepped into that yellow Taxi,
I knew I had answered a call to service,
A call out of my reality,
A call out of my ordinary.
From that moment,
I felt completely alone,
Asides calls from my family
at home,
I was truly alone.
But it was a necessity if I wanted a chance at being independent,
I needed to make decisions all own my own,
I needed to show them I could survive the real world,
I could adapt out of my zone.
So as I took a step into the unknown,
I knew I was taking a step away from true abode,
I was taking a step away from my kingdom,
A step away from my one true home.
