Hi there, Hive gardeners!!
How is your garden doing?
It's the end of summer here in my country, and the rainy season is waving. I'm sure my plants and flowers are going to love it.
But I'm not going to share my pretty flowers today, but instead, our banana plant. We harvested 2 bunches of bananas with lots of hands (clusters) a few days ago. Bananas only bear fruit once, so we chopped the entire plant up and used it as mulch.
We don't use store-bought fertilizers. We only use organic waste, anything we can find in our own backyard. In this case, we had rotten mangos that had fallen last week, so we put them with the chopped banana plant and the dry leaves.
Since we have a lot of banana plants around the house, we have more supply than the demand 😂
We can't give it to our neighbors because they all have their own banana supplies as well, so the rotten ones are used as fertilizer so we can grow more bananas 😁
Rotten bananas are actually excellent organic fertilizers. They are packed with potassium, phosphorus, calcium, and magnesium, and they can help the plant to grow healthy roots and promote better flowering and fruiting.
There's only one big banana plant left for now, but we have a lot of suckers (shoots). I froze my share of bananas, and I'll use them to make banana smoothies. I think I can share the recipe soon 😊. I think it will be enough until we grow another bunch of bananas.
