Good morning, #Monomad friends
Here is my entry for the #monomad contest by @brumest and @monochromes.
During a walk I took last weekend through the town of Amadora, I had the chance to look for two businesses that I knew so well over 38 years ago... One of them was a barbershop, which I remember going to with my father. I have fond memories of that barbershop. I would sit very still in the chair, and I loved watching all the dancing the barber did around my head, only to reveal a splendid haircut at the end.
I remember that the barber would always comment to my father on how well-behaved I was, and that most boys my age could only sit still for a little over 10 minutes, which didn’t give him the time or peace of mind to show off all his skills with the pair of steel blades attached to a shaft and held securely in his right hand.
Many years later, I was still going to that barber, but fashion dictated that I ask for a haircut with clippers, not scissors. So I went from having a side-parted hairstyle to a wilder one!
A few years later, I stopped going to the barber because baldness had taken hold on my head. I’ve been cutting my own hair for about ten years now. These days, I do it with a simple manual razor.
These days, that establishment has been converted into a shop selling African products. I met an African couple who have been working there since 2018. I hadn’t been to that area since 1998, back when Expo98 was held!
A lot has happened. I took the opportunity to stroll through the central garden in Amadora as well, and capture some relaxed moments of the passersby.
How about you—do you also like to revisit places that bring back lots of memories?
I hope you enjoyed my post here in the B&W community
