Why Do So Many People Work Their Entire Lives and Never Reach Their Dreams?

Throughout my life, which is not that long yet, at least at this stage, I have come to understand that being academically intelligent is not enough to face life's challenges. Many times, opportunities appear right in front of us, but we fail to recognize them because we limit our thinking to the reality we believe exists instead of the reality that is actually possible.

For this reason, many people never truly consider success to be within their reach. They settle for working for someone else, earning a paycheck, and living a seemingly stable life. There is nothing wrong with that if it is genuinely what they want. However, in my opinion, when a person spends their entire life working only for others without building something of their own or creating additional sources of income, achieving financial freedom and larger personal goals becomes much more difficult.

As the years pass, work, responsibilities, expenses, and worries consume much of a person's energy. By the end of the journey, many people reach old age facing financial, emotional, or health-related challenges without ever attempting to build something that could have changed their circumstances.

Financial freedom exists, but it is not easy to achieve. It requires continuous learning, commitment, discipline, and, above all, the willingness to learn through trial and error. It also requires patience because meaningful results rarely happen overnight.

Along the way, there are disappointments, failed projects, missed opportunities, and countless ideas left on paper waiting for the right moment to become reality. There are also different ways to generate income, whether through businesses, investments, cryptocurrencies, or any legitimate activity that helps build the foundation of a personal project.

It is a demanding path. There are obstacles, losses, mistakes, and moments when progress seems impossible. In my case, as a Cuban, one of the biggest challenges has been finding reliable payment methods to sell products and receive earnings without complications. Even so, I continue searching for alternatives because I believe there is always an opportunity for those who refuse to stop trying.

I have always tried to see opportunities where others do not. Although I certainly miss some as well, I understand that this is part of the learning process. What matters most is maintaining an open mind, continuing to learn, and being prepared to recognize new possibilities when they appear.

I firmly believe that building something of your own is one of the best decisions a person can make. Not because it guarantees success, but because it provides the opportunity to create, learn, grow, and move closer to your goals. That is why I believe it is better to invest time in building your own dreams than to spend an entire lifetime helping build someone else's.

Giving up should never be an option. Results may take time, mistakes can be painful, and the path can be uncertain, but perseverance is often the difference between those who quit and those who eventually achieve more than they ever imagined.

Thank you for reading. @terganftp @bradleyarrow

I enjoyed the article but this portion made me think twice:

Financial freedom exists, but it is not easy to achieve. It requires continuous learning, commitment, discipline, and, above all, the willingness to learn through trial and error. It also requires patience because meaningful results rarely happen overnight.

I agree that financial freedom exists and that it is not easy to achieve. I just think that there is one thing missing, at least from a Canadian perspective. I understand in some countries wages are incredibly low and in those cases your statement is fundamentally correct.

However, in Canada my wife and I were just talking about nurses who don't have enough money to buy food at the end of the month. They want to go on strike for better wages even though they often have wages between $5,000 - $6,000 USD monthly.

In some cases financial freedom isn't reached because people live beyond their means. They don't have a goal for their finances. They get into foolish debt. Or they fail to anticipate life challenges which cause significant financial stress.

Just as an addition to what you already wrote :)

And thanks for writing.

I really hope to earn between 5,000 and 6,000 a month here; it would be a huge help. Thanks a million for reading.

5000 a month on Hive? USD? Seems somewhat over optimistic. But if you make it I will love to find out how :)

This is a very thoughtful and inspiring perspective. I agree that academic intelligence alone is not enough to navigate life successfully. Many of the most important lessons come from experience, failure, persistence, and the willingness to take calculated risks.
