I’m a sucker for a great discount. 40% Off is nothing to ignore. The trick to these “drastically reduced” gimmicks is to take advantage of them, only if it’s something you need. Americans are impulse shoppers. Creatures of habit that like their routines. If they see a Snickers bar next to the counter for 40% off, they’ll fly off the shelves in popularity.
I will usually see a 40% Off sale (or some derivative of one) during Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends. Both of these American holidays are national and everyone gets an extra day off from work (in theory). Banks and Postal Services are closed. Official transactions grind to a halt. If the family isn’t out-of-town for holiday, they have extra time to shop.
Retailers entice us like moths to a flame by waving drastic reductions in our face thinking that it’s too irresistible to pass up. Most of the time I just scoff, but if it’s clearance on grocery items or things that I use on a daily basis, I’ll definitely take a look and possibly buy.
When your money is tight, you tend to stretch that dollar until it rips, so looking out for the best bang for your buck is paramount.
