Historical Fréjus

Dear Hiveans Liebe Hiver Queridos Hiveanos Our vacation has come to an end, and we are back to beautiful, but cold and rainy Switzerland. We have a lot of photos of nice cities and landscapes. So, I will post some of them in the coming days. Today: Fréjus (wiki), a very old town where already Celto-Ligurian people had a settlement. Later (49 BC) Julius Caesar refounded the city as Forum Julii. Fréjus was strategically situated at a crossroads of the Via Julia Augusta and the Via Domitia. Thus, even today one can gaze at Roman buildings/ruins. Unser Urlaub ist zu Ende, und wir sind zurück in der schönen, aber kalten und regnerischen Schweiz. Wir haben viele Fotos von schönen Städten und Landschaften. Einige davon werde ich in den nächsten Tagen posten. Heute: Fréjus (wiki), eine sehr alte Stadt, in der bereits Kelto-Ligurer eine Siedlung hatten. Später (49 v. Chr.) gründete Julius Cäsar die Stadt als Forum Julii neu. Fréjus lag strategisch günstig an der Kreuzung der Via Julia Augusta und der Via Domitia. So kann man auch heute noch römische Gebäude/Ruinen bestaunen. Nuestras vacaciones han llegado a su fin, y hemos vuelto a la hermosa, pero fría y lluviosa Suiza. Tenemos muchas fotos de ciudades y paisajes bonitos. Así que publicaré algunas de ellas en los próximos días. Hoy: Fréjus (wiki), una ciudad muy antigua donde ya había un asentamiento de celtíberos. Más tarde (en el 49 a.C.) Julio César refundó la ciudad como Forum Julii. Fréjus estaba estratégicamente situada en un cruce de la Vía Julia Augusta y la Vía Domitia. Por ello, aún hoy se pueden contemplar edificios/ruinas romanas.
