Dear Hiveans,

today I'd like to share with you some things I am long or short.
In investment parlance "long" means that I bet money on something rising, e.g. "I am long Apple" means I own stocks of Apple thinking that it will rise. "I am short Japan" would mean that I think Japan will decline and that I sell the Nikkei short (wiki) so that I profit if Japan or its equity market index falls. Here I don't see "being long or short" mainly from a financial viewpoint, but more open in the sense of "thinking that something will develop well or will become more important".

heute möchte ich eine kurze Liste mit "Dingen" teilen, die ich "long" oder "short" bin.
Im Investmentslang bedeutet "long", dass ich auf einen Anstieg von etwas setze, z.B. "I am long Apple" bedeutet, dass ich Apple-Aktien besitze und davon ausgehe, dass sie steigen werden. "I am short Japan" würde bedeuten, dass ich glaube, dass Japan fallen wird, und dass ich z.B. den Nikkei leerverkaufe (wiki), so dass ich profitiere, wenn Japan oder sein Aktienmarktindex fällt. Hier sehe ich "long oder short" nicht in erster Linie aus finanzieller Sicht, sondern offener im Sinne von "denken, dass sich etwas gut entwickeln oder wichtiger werden wird".

hoy me gustaría compartir con ustedes algunas cosas que estoy largo o corto.
En el lenguaje de las inversiones, "long" significa que apuesto dinero a que algo va a subir; por ejemplo, "estoy largo en Apple" significa que poseo acciones de Apple pensando que subirá. "Estoy en corto en Japón" significa que creo que Japón bajará y que vendo el Nikkei en corto (wiki) para beneficiarme si Japón o su índice bursátil caen. Aquí no veo "estar long o short" principalmente desde un punto de vista financiero, sino más abierto en el sentido de "pensar que algo se desarrollará bien o cobrará más importancia".

Hier ein paar der unterschiedlichen Long/Shorts:

Power Generation - Long:Clean Energy / Short: Oil
Stocks - Long: Dividend Growers / Short: Tobacco

Das sind zwei gute Punkte. Hinsichtlich Öl sehe ich das auch, aber nur sehr langfristig. Auf Sicht der nächsten 10 Jahre halte ich Öl für weit unterschätzt und unterbewertet.

A very interesting approach from finance. Maybe taking Argentina for long is not a good option, taking in count how that country is performing nowadays. They even have national elections late this year. Then, the market will react to those results in one way or another.

Yes, Argentina is a quite contrarian bet.

But what will remain more than "Short" is the progressive agenda, they will not be able to with the natural, they have the battle lost!

Ein paar Dinge sehe ich etwas anders.

Long Energie, Short Technologie… hängt das nicht irgendwie zusammen??

Bei Transport bzw. Zug und Auto sehe ich das auch nicht so wie Du. Wenn ich mir ansehe wie schlecht das Schienennetz ausgebaut ist und in welchem Zustand, oje oje… und dann dauerhaft überlastet, zu spät usw.
Zudem gehört ja inzwischen ein Kettenhemd zur Grundausstattung eines Bahnfahrers 🤭

Zur Stromerzeugung möchte ich anmerken dass Photovoltaik der richtige Ausdruck ist, Solar ist die Bezeichnung zur Warmwassererzeugung.(Sorry fürs Klugscheissen)
Ich denke dass Photovoltaik auch auf lange Sicht eine tragende Rolle zur Stromerzeugung spielt, aber selbstverständlich nicht alleine. Diverse Techniken werden zusammen genutzt werden, wobei Kernkraft die Hauptrolle spielen sollte (insofern diese bis dahin nicht von Kernfusion übernommen wird)

- Ja, Technologie spielt mittlerweile überall mit rein. Ich meinte hier den Tech-Sektor, d.h. alles mit IT, Firmen wie Apple, Facebook, Google, usw.

- Ja, diese Probleme sehe ich auch, wobei es in der Schweiz viel besser ist als in Deutschland.
- Ich meine das sehr langfristig und hoffe einerseits auf eine weitgehende Privatisierung der bestehenden Bahninfrastruktur und -betreibung und andererseits auf neue Unternehmungen in diese Richtung (z.B. die boring company von Elon Musk), d.h. Bau von neuer Bahninfrastruktur mit neuer Technologie, viel schnellere Verbindungen + komfortabler (gute Sitze, Standard-WLan, usw.) und auch mehr Sicherheit.

- Ist das so? Ich dachte Solarenergie wäre der Überbegriff für jede Energie, die mehr oder weniger direkt aus der Sonnenstrahlung gewonnen wird. Und da die Energiedichte von Sonnenstrahlung sehr niedrig ist, geht ihre Gewinnung mit einer Ressourcenschlacht einher. Deshalb Kernenergie.

Ok du siehst das also im Allgemeinen dann seeeeehr langfristig.
Bei einer Privatisierung der Bahn sehe ich dann aber auch einige schwierige Hürden. Vor allen beim Punkt Sicherheit. Ein Privatinternehmen arbeitet an seiner Gewinnmaximierung was dazu führen könnte dass bei der Sicherheit (z.B. Wartungsintervalle) gespart wird...

- Ja, das ist ja auch gut so. Die Ressourcen sollen effizient eingesetzt werden - was beim Staat nicht passiert. Ein Unternehmen, das zu wenig Sicherheit gewährleistet, wird durch Konkurrenz aus dem Markt geräumt. Bin sehr gespannt, wie sich dieses Thema weiter entwickelt.

  • bezüglich Photovoltaik: sehr interessant. Ist dann Solarenergie aber der Oberbegriff?

Ja, ich sehe Gold sehr langfristig als eine Longposition, auch wenn es mal Phasen von 10 oder mehr Jahren geben kann, in denen es für Gold eher runter geht, z.B. zwischen 1980 und 2000.

Ich persönlich bin long was Photovoltaikanlagen angeht. Da es ab nächstes Jahr wohl zur Pflicht werden wird in Deutschland eine aus Dach zu installieren sobald man das Dach erneuert.
